What Size Removal Van Do I Need?

This will depend on the size and the weight of the items you need help with.

The size of the van you need when moving depends on several factors, including the amount of belongings you have, the size of your furniture, and the distance you’re moving. Here are some general guidelines to help you determine the right size van for your move:

Inventory: Start by taking an inventory of all the items you plan to move. This includes furniture, appliances, boxes, and any other large or bulky items.

Calculate Cubic Feet: Measure the dimensions of your furniture and large items, and calculate their cubic footage. Add up the cubic footage of all your belongings to get an estimate of the total space you’ll need.

Consider Distance: If you’re moving locally, you may be able to make multiple trips with a smaller van. However, for long-distance moves, it’s more efficient to use a larger van to minimize the number of trips.

Number of Movers: The cheapest service is hiring a man with a van. Adding extra people to help, will increase the cost by an additional £20 per hour / per person.

Removal Van Sizes: Vans come in various sizes, such as cargo vans, panel vans, and box trucks. Common sizes include:

- Cargo Van: This is a smaller van suitable for small moves or for transporting a few pieces of furniture and boxes. Cargo vans typically have a capacity of 150-250 cubic feet.

Used this company today - would highly recommend. Very punctual, courteous and polite. I recently moved to London and had my goods shipped via cargo container so was looking for a local London moving company to help with unloading the container into my flat. I was referred to Movivan as a potential company, I feel I made a great choice in going with them. The whole team is great. We originally contacted a few removal firms to compare quotes, but cancelled the others before they surveyed as Movivan were the most prompt and responsive from initial contact. Their survey put us at ease, with friendly honest conversation about the move and we instantly trusted them to help with our relocation some 120 miles. No sales pitch, just straight up. As with most house moves, it's not an exact science and the completion date was postponed numerous times, Movivan didn't pressure us and accommodated the change each time. Their professionalism continued from their office team to the operations team on the ground moving us. Polite, always smiling and efficient. They're clearly professionals who have plenty of experience and know what they're doing. Movivan was suggested by a very good friend who just used them to move to High Wycombe. I gave them a call, and they had such great customer service. And it was such a reasonable quote, I went with them, and I'm glad I did. The service they provided, the team that was sent, even during the move I had to hire another van through them, and it was such a smooth transaction with them. Useful information to know so you can prepare for the move.

How many parking spaces does your removal van need?

Each of our moving Luton vans needs 2 parking spaces. If we are using 2 removal vans, our drivers might be able to fit into 3 parking spaces. When reserving the parking, always try to be as close as possible to the main loading entrance. Removal van parked too far will require more loading/unloading time and higher removal cost.

What if my belongings do not fit into one van?

We operate a fleet of vans and lorries, so if your belongings do not fit into one van, we can send two. It is very important this be discussed prior to the move, at least 2 or 3 days before. If moving locally, we are also able to do a couple of trips between both properties with one moving van only.

Will my bed fit into the removal van?

Yes, your bed will fit into any of our vans. Single beds might come out of your property as one piece, but double and king-size beds will require dismantling before it is loaded in the van. This is due to the standard UK door size and not the van. Our vans have an internal height of 2.7m and they are 2.1m wide.
